Venus (2017), directed by Eisha Marjara, is a heartfelt Canadian dramedy that explores identity, family, and transformation through a refreshingly light lens. The story follows Sid, an Indo-Canadian who has recently come out as a transgender woman. Just as she begins navigating her transition, Sid is surprised by the arrival of Ralph—a spirited 14-year-old boy who claims to be her biological son from a teenage relationship.


As Sid grapples with her evolving identity, she must also confront the complexities of parenthood, cultural expectations, and romantic relationships. Ralph embraces the idea of having a transgender parent, but hasn’t told his mother or stepfather about reconnecting with Sid. Meanwhile, Sid’s boyfriend Daniel struggles with coming out himself, adding another layer of tension and growth.
